العنوان الأصلي للرواية (أدب) كان "الأرض البعيدة" ولكن في فترة ما ربما في الفجوة بين كتابة الأجزاء الأولي منها وما تلاها فغير ريد العنوان إلي "الطفل الأخضر" لذا فإن محور الرواية قد تغير أيضًا من سعي أولفيرو إلي معرفة إتجاه السيل إلي معرفة قصة الطفل الأخضر نفسها.
